Once Shiva wanted to gift Creation Meditation through music.... He simply took 2 hollow pumpkin gourds(probably consumed by insects etc) ,connected them using a bamboo( as Dundee) , strung some strings taken from a tree bark and began playing in the Himalayas.... the music emanated was so sweet , surreal ,emancipating and DIVINE that animals , birds and others(maybe humans) had gathered around Him to listen to Shiva.... it is said that they were crying ... as the music shook their souls to the core and made them feel the surreal feelings of The Creator's love for creation and the sense of fulfilment it gave them...... .They were so mesmerized by the music that they had forgotten their own basic nature/instinct for example lions goats rabbits were listening in together.... the lions had forgotten that they were supposed to hunt their neighbours.... also the organisms that were listening to Rudra veena were so elated emancipated and fulfilled that they kept listening from start till end for days without any care about even quenching their thirst or satisfying their hunger because they didn't feel any hunger or thirst or bloodlust or...anything.... they were in the ultimate stage of meditation where the body doesn't need food water...even air.... Even today if you hear the Rudra veena, Without any sound system or mic or on TV but live near the one playing the instrument, you would feel Tranquillity in its sweetest raw form... even if only a single prolonged note is played.... That's the legend .... also it is said that all the other string instruments like Sitar,Saraswati Veena ,Sarod, even Guitar etcetra are all derivatives of The Rudra veena children from the same parent-Rudra Veena(RV)... Till today RV is known for its heavy deep sound that heals and calms down the soul....

Rudra Veena has been used in meditation and bhakti yoga for a very long time by yogis,sages,bhaktas...Indian Classic Music has its roots in spirituality...Here is an image of a sage meditating through a Rudra Veena ...

Also,thereis the story in the Hindu mythology of Ravana playing the Rudra Veena out of Bhakti/devotion and dedication to God SHIVA (whose ugra rupam is known as RUDRA)
